One of those retreats is Charleston, South Carolina. This is one of the classic cities left in America. So if you're looking for something like LA or Las Vegas, this quaint, southern town is certainly not it. The first time I visited this city was in 95. I can even recall the first time I laid eyes on the wonderful cobblestone streets. The historic district had a certain incomparable flare to it. My wife and I stayed at a cozy inn that provided complimentary wine and cheese in the night hours. That's so cool! I'll never forget that hotel. In addition to hotels, many major time share firms have facilities in the area. Our personal favorite place to stay is on Kiawah Island. We usually book this vacation with a family and get a minium 3 bedroom unit and our favorite spot is Parrot Point where we can walk to the beach. Accomodations come in the form of houses, appartments, and a variations in between. The Island is only an island in the sense you cross a small tidal river to get to it. You have "on island" access to bike trails (bikes for rent), championship golf, tennis and many other ammenities including an in season children's program. Accomodations can be booked either directly by watching rentals in major city newspapers, or with one of the rental agencies on the Island itself.  Be aware that as you  select this location you are about 30-45 minutes out of Charleston itself. This is a vacation for the quiet and beach lover. There's no Myrtle Beach type honky tonks or boardwalk. This is a place you go to the beach and say, "Shush Waves, don't you see I'm reading". If this is your style, you'll love it. If you want nite life.. better think again.
