amelia island sightseeing
Sightseeing on Amelia Island, Fl is
just the beginning of this very pleasant vacation. As you enter
Fl from the North on I-95 and cross the James River, one of the
first interchange signs you see is for Amelia Island, and you
just have a sense "something is different". Maybe it was your
plan to stop there and your destination because possibly you
had seen a previous amelia island photo tour, or maybe you were
from the general area and just wanted to check out the purchase
of an amelia island waterfront home... or maybe you had planned
an amelia island fl vacation all along and you were now
here.

Regardless as you drive the few miles from
the interstate to the island and finally arrive you are
surprised by the number of various amelia island
accommodations. You may have been there on a business trip
because it is such a favorite destination for things like
corporate sales meetings. Unlike some of the spots we have
visited and vacationed on more to the north, our amelia island
vacation has always been much more "layed back" and we enjoyed
the beaches, certainly enjoyed amelia island golf, and also the
many amelia island fishing opportunities.
In a way, it's almost unfair to just focus on
Amelia Island Plantation (because that's what it was long ago)
as it is really part of the greater Jacksonville area and
Jacksonville vacation experience. There are many rivers,
inlets, and coves and one really could focus on any number of
these from jacksonville area military installations to the
seaport to actually staying in Jacksonville itself. Yet the
charm of Amelia Island pulls many people, including native
Floridians to this destination.
Our (the writers) first experience was to
come here as part of a corporate sales meeting. We stayed at
one of the leading ameilia island hotels, which was really more
like a lodge. Had great meeting facilities, but then plenty of
opportunities for fishing, golf, tennis, and both the beach and
the pool.

The next year as we sought a quiet vacation,
this became a long weekend getaway destination, and while that
was close to 20 years ago, now that we are Fl retirees we plan
to return in the near future.
Check out all the various opportunities,
particularly if you are looking for a quiet, almost secluded
place and north of some of the more oppressive s. fla heat, and
I know you'll be pleased. And oh yes.. don't forget to start it
out with that famous amelia island sightseeing!
