A Charleston SC Family Vacation
A Charleston SC Family Vacation is one you'll
never forget and we guide you through things to see, do, and
places to stay.

You will have four main areas of
concentration for this vacation, and only you can rank
them:
1) Historic Charleston... a walking or horse
drawn carriage tour of downtown Charleston including many
historic homes, and of course, shopping in the Straw
Market.
2) The beach. Many are great but we are going
to focus on our favorite and where we stayed.... Kiawah
Island
3) Golf.
4) Historic things to see and do, including
many famous plantations; Fort Henry where the national anthem
was inspired; Patriots Point Naval Museum.
If you are looking for a
boardwalk action type vacation spot, this isn't it. A
Charleston SC family vacaton is a place to unwind; to have some
quiet days. Enjoy sunrises and sunsets on a pristine beach.
Have family activities.
Your vacation planning would start with of
course defining what you want to do and where of the above four
categories your concentration might be. If it's golf, then you
want to check out golf villas for vacation rental. If it's
beach, get on the Internet and check out chaleston beach
vacation rentals. If you are on a budget, then start a search
and planning with the term charleston discount vacation. You'll
find much to select from because charleston and vacation just
go hand in hand.
One thing about Charleston you'll note as you
compare other East Coast Vacations is that as we are moving
south as in this site our theme starts up north with Cape Cod
Vacations, you'll note it's warmer earlier in the season and
stays warm later. We're in the area where in July and August
it's plain hot, muggy, and sometimes miserable.
While the SC seashore in this area offers
literally thousands of vacation rentals from rental houses to
rental condos and with choices ranging from agencies managing
these rentals to many charleston rentals by owner, we chose on
our two vacations here to go through an agency and settle at
Kiawah Island. While you are reading this on the Internet,
you'll find an abundant source of Kiawah Island house and condo
rentals in the travel section of most major city newspapers,
including places you will NOT find on the web. If your budget
can afford it, we'd choose and recommend Kiawah. First choice,
particularly if you have a family with smaller kids, is a beach
home or a duplex. Everyone has plenty of room, you can walk to
the beach, and you may even be on one of the golf courses. Next
choice would be a condo. Not as private and not necessarily as
convenient as some are 2-3 stories high. By the way, bikes are
an absolute necessity for a stay here. Last choice is the lodge
or hotel. One downside of a home or condo is not having a
swimming pool right there. The hotel/lodge does.
If you are wanting a pool, be sure and check
availability wherever you rent.
GOLF. Available many places and at different
skill levels and pricing. The municipal golf course near the
Patriots Point Maratime Museum which features an aircraft
carrier, a submarine, and other vessels is acceptable for a
beginner and is low end budget. Kiawah resort as such has two
upper level courses available, and then at the far end of the
island is an exclusive and private course with a high
difficulty rating. While private, arrangements can be made for
an individual to get on, but be prepared to pay premium
rates.
TOURING. Any visit to Charleston must include
downtown and the Straw Market. From there you can start your
tour of many of the city's older mansions. The other main
attraction is the plantation, including the one where Gone With
the Wind was Filmed. Most have active guides... but if you are
from the North, be prepared to know that the civil war is still
alive in some of the minds of these died in the wool guides and
you WILL hear about how Grant mercilessly burned many of the
plantations to the ground.. and as a Yankee, you share some of
the guild even today! Egos in the area are not small. As your
author, I hail from Pittsburgh where we have two rivers, the
Allegheny and the "Mon" come together to form the Ohio River.
Charleston also has two rivers.. and they come together there
to form..... the Atlantic Ocean!

plus all the tips for planning your charleston vacation.
Enjoy!
